Waking with Real Jesus (a.k.a. Deep Living)

Deep living.  Real, deep living.  Real, indestructible, undefeatable, deep-in-love living.  That's life with Real Jesus as Teacher and Guide.  This week, we'll hear about Bert and his "Mud Bath" bap0tism (or as he calls it, "bath-tism").  We'll step into the reality of our responses to those "who's going to know?" choices and responses in our lives.  And then we'll meet young Jordan, whose life deepens in amazing ways as he meets real Jesus in a "weird kid", and new university student Carly as she follows real Jesus into deep living in a campus dorm.

Talking with Real Jesus (a.k.a. Prayer)

Prayer.  Most often we treat it like a "wish list".  God, I want...God, give me...  Many times, what we regard as "prayer" looks much more like what I call the "vending machine God" approach.  We put in our time asking ("praying"), push the "amen" button, and then we expect results - as we define them.  We'll sit with a guy in a homeless shelter who got nothing on his prayer list.  And then we'll meet Abe, who loses his job over his rating faith as vital, job as important.  What happens when he lives that faith in steadfast prayer?  Prayer is so much more than wish list fulfillment?  So much more...

The Unquenchable Light of Real Jesus

Lost in an underground cave system (way lost, way underground)...where's the light?  Falsey accused of stealing on the job and about to be fired...where's the light?  And which would you expect to share the power of that light: a "street preacher" or a "ratty tatty old woman" selling flowers she picked along the street (roses, dandelions, whatever).  Imagine her singing - and living - "This Little Light of Mine"!

Real Jesus Sightings - Who?

Often when we think about the answers to questions such as this week's, we picture those in dire need or awful circumstances as "most likely".  But what if the "likeliness" of one of these "sightings" has nothing to do with our "likeliness ranking system"?  What about a 13 year old boy who returns from a fun weekend with friends to an empty house - and a goodbye note from his parents?  And a little girl who insists that her birthday cake would be the perfect "bread" to serve for Communion in church...or a youth "forced to go" on a mission trip?  And who in the midst of neighbors trying to jodge - or not judge - one of their neighbors...would be most likely to meet and experience the love on the loose of Real Jesus?

Real Jesus sightings - When?

When IS the best time to get one of these "Jesus Sightings"?  Good question, right?  In a culture tuned to prioritize the spectacular over the everyday, the surface-deep over the soul deep, when is "the perfect time" to see this Jesus?  This week, we'll hear about 7 year old Anna and her "spirit like underwear", and about Jeff, who won millions in the lottery( whoa!).  And what about when you're a high school student who does the right thing and accused of the exact opposite?  And how about opening night of a theater performance, when one of the stars can't be found because...he's helping someone in the restroom?  Yes, these are just a few of the best times for "Jesus Sightings"!
